Notes:

7 August 1869 There is a report of the crime in Aris's Birmingham Gazette Saturday 7 August 1869 p.7 col.5: ROBBING A SHOPMATE.- William Henry White (14), brassfounder, Little Charles Street, was charged with stealing a watch, value £3., the property of Edwin Bright, St. Vincent Street, Ladywood.- Prosecutor left his waistcoat in the shop where he was employed whilst he went into an adjoining shop to have his breakfast. When he returned the watch was missing from the waistcoat pocket. Prisoner, who was employed in the same shop, absconded, and he was suspected of stealing the watch. On Wednesday prosecutor took Detective-sergeant Seal to the prisoner's house, and had the "youth" arrested. He admitted that he took the watch, but made contradictory statements as to what he had done with it, and it could not therefore be found.- Prisoner was sent to gaol for 14 days, and at the end of that term he will taken to a reformatory for five years. [In another newspaper he is named as William Henry Hill White]

24 November 1871 Absconded

14 August 1872 Brought back by Hanley policeman
