Notes:

24 June 1869 There is a short report of the offence in the Birmingham Daily Post Thursday 24 June 1869 p.8 col.2: SENT TO A REFORMATORY.- At the Wolverhampton Police Court yesterday, before Mr. I. Spooner, a little lad, named William Davis, residing with his parents at Bilston, was brought up on remand from Bilston Police Court, charged with stealing 5½d. from the till of a shop. The case was proved on the previous day, and Mr. Spooner then ordered inquiries to be made as to the boy's antececedents.- Yesterday, it was reported that although the lad had never been convicted, yet he had a very bad character, and was constantly running about the streets, without his parents appearing to care for him. Mr. Spooner said that he should therefore send the lad to a Reformatory, and order the father to pay for him.
